Holistic Mental Health - Reiki and EDMR

Holistic practices in mental health are gaining popularity. Treating the whole person - mind, body, and soul can help bring a person back into their body and help them work through mental health issues in a more balanced state. Today I am going to discuss adding Reiki to EDMR sessions.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of energy healing that promotes relaxation, stress reduction, and symptom relief to improve overall health and well-being. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Reiki can help move stagnant energy from the body which in return can help with healing the mind and body, stimulating the immune system, quieting the mind, overcoming addictions and habits, improving sleep, and the list goes on.

What is EDMR Therapy?

Another modality that is gaining popularity is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or simply EDMR. Mental health providers are offering EMDR therapy which according to edmr.com, "facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences to bring these to an adaptive resolution. After successful treatment with EMDR therapy, affective distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and physiological arousal is reduced". More and more mental health providers are referring to or facilitating EDMR therapy.

Putting Reiki and EDMR together

Clients who are working with EDMR therapy have found that having Reiki after their session helps them balance the intense energy that comes up during their session. Reiki allows the body to relax and process deep emotions. Some of the emotions that come up with EDMR can be intense. I offer Reiki sessions to those who have had recent EDMR. These sessions can be in person (Central New York) or remotely to anyone in the world. If you are currently working with an EDMR therapist and want to incorporate Reiki into your plan, please reach out to discuss if it would be a good fit - hello@zenbetweenthechaos.com.
